Welcome to the blog of Finca Alta Cocina – Tapas y Algo Mas, or Tapas and Something More, in English.
I´m Ewa – a professional chef passionate about all things food and drink related.
I left my home country of Poland in 1981 for a short visit to the UK, and extended my stay a little longer than I thought. After 25 years of living in cloudy England, and juggling the duties of wife, mother, chef and dish washer, I came to the conclusion that life is too short.
In 2006 I decided to slow down the pace, and move to sunny Andalucia, setting up a cooking school from my Finca in Algodonales, Spain.
Nestled between the mountains, 10 mins away from the nearby town, Finca Alta Cocina stands within a six acre plot surrounded by its own olive orchard. A superb spot for relaxation, it is here that I offer lessons in Spanish and Mediterranean cooking.
Running cooking courses for foodies and enthusiasts, I teach not just how to make paella or tapas, but also the history and cultural influences of Mediterranean dishes, using fresh local produce to create them; some of which come from my garden.
I welcome guests from different nationalities and cultures, but always find that despite the differences, we have something important in common – food. What can be more enjoyable than swapping stories over a table full of delicious dishes, that we all prepared, and a glass of vino (or two) under the Andalusian sky?
In my spare time I like to look, listen and observe – there are so many interesting things around, you just have to slow down a little to notice them.
I´ll be using this blog to share my own recipes, giving you a taste of life here in the foothills of the Sierra de Grazalema.
